I don’t have a certain style or plant palette. Every design reflects your individual tastes and desires and harmonizes with the type of architecture and scale of your home. I have designed various types of gardens – from “cutting gardens” filled with roses and companion plants to very low water California native gardens. Each space is unique and I strive for a beautiful, functional design reflecting a strong “sense of place.”
I won’t ask you to fill out checklists. I will spend time listening to you as we walk your site and then giving you solid ideas based on your input. You will have a good understanding of the “look and feel” of your new landscape early in the process.
I will evaluate site conditions such as microclimate (windy, reflective heat areas, etc.), soil condition, drainage, and other factors that need to be considered in the design process. I will note areas that are prominent where specimen plants with high visual impact are desirable as well as areas where screening for privacy or noise reduction is key. I will also suggest ways to improve the health and aesthetics of existing plants so that they may be incorporated into the design. These established plants are valuable and simple fixes such as a pruning for renovation or better structure can often dramatically improve a plant’s appearance.

My goal is for you to be thoroughly pleased with your landscape. Ideally, you will spend more time outdoors and the seasonal changes in your garden will be more apparent and bring you delight. I am happy to put you in touch with former clients to hear directly from from them about their experience with my design process and the final outcome. My clients are my best form of marketing.
